Description:
Built for speed, power and versatility by Alco-Schenectady, CRIP 4-8-4 #5049 played a vital role in the Rock Island roster. It served for nearly 22 years before being retired and sold for scrap in July of 1952. Original specs - 69" drivers, impressive 250 psi boiler pressure, 26x32" cylinders, engine weight of 434,000 lb and tractive effort of 66,620 lb. No date location or photographer was listed for this photo so approximates were used.
